In real life fletching is the art of making arrows, and in RuneScape it is the same but it is also the ability to make bows and do some other tasks. The skill debuted in 2002 in RuneScape Classic, and is also in RuneScape 2. Used to create bows and arrows, coupled with magic, this skill is very good for making money and gaining experience in both skills.
The RuneScape website says: "To make bows you first need to acquire some wood. Depending on the type of tree you chop down you can get different sorts of logs. Next use a knife with the logs to cut them into either a shortbow or a longbow. If you want to make several of the same object, simply right-click and select the number you wish to produce. To make a bow string you need to find a flax plant and use it with a spinning wheel. Finally add the string to the bow to complete it."
Rarer types of wood are harder to acquire, but make better bows which shoot more accurately. There are many different types of bows, each requiring a certain skill level both to make both for short and long versions. Some types of bows include 'generic' Bow, Oak Bow, Willow Bow, Maple Bow, Yew Bow, Magic Bow with oak short bow requiring, for example, level 20 fletching but something like the Magic long bow requiring level 85.
Red Cog: To find the red cog go to the cellars and go through the door in front of the red square on the floor. Red represents South-East. Walk past the level 53 Ogres and pick up the red cog. Then walk back past them and return up the ladder. Go to the second floor and place the red cog on the red pole.
Black Cog: Travel down ladder and go through the door in front of the black square on the ground. Follow the path until you find a room infested with level 2 spiders. The cog is behind the fires along the back wall. Use your bucket of water on it and pick it up. Take that cog and put it on the black pole on the ground floor.
White Cog: Travel down ladder and go through the door in front of the white square on the floor. Go down the hall and turn left at the fork and retrieve the poison. Go back down the hall and go up the other hall. Use the poison with the feeding trough and get behind the fence, and pull the both of the levers. Once the rats are dead go to the back of the pen and click on the bars. Pick up the cog before going up the ladder. Put the cog on the purple pole on the third floor.
